This is an incredibly rare, highly collectible piece of David Byrne publication history. This is a complete copy of the true first edition of Your Action World: Winners Are Losers with a New Attitude, released to coincide with Byrne’s exhibition at the Civico Museo Revoltella in Trieste, Italy (Oct 3 – Nov 2, 1998).

Unlike the mass-market version released later in 1999, this original 1998 oversized folio features the highly sought-after debossed vinyl cover and its original, tight-fitting clear plastic tote bag/sleeve with printed letters. The book and sleeve are designed to align perfectly to complete the cover title which is a feature omitted from later editions.

Unique Provenance Included:

This specific copy has direct ties to the history of the book’s worldwide distribution. In February 1999, this exact copy was sent to the late publisher Kevin Lippert (founder of Princeton Architectural Press). It included a hand-written postcard dated 2•10•99 from Bridget Shields (who was working with David Byrne). The note mentions that prominent design editor Chee Pearlman directed her to Lippert to seek advice on global distribution. Lippert subsequently steered her to his then distributer, Chronicle Books, who went on to publish the more common 1999 edition.
