Chinese Jingdezhen Rice Grain Dragon Porcelain Oval Serving Platter – Vintage – Blue & White

This vintage Chinese porcelain oval serving platter featuring the iconic “Rice Grain” (or “Rice Eye”) translucent border pattern. The center of the platter is adorned with a dynamic, highly detailed blue underglaze 5-claw dragon chasing the flaming pearl, surrounded by traditional stylized cloud motifs.

Beside stating “Made in China”, the bottom has symbols which translate to “China Yuanhu Electric” which points directly to a mid-to-late 20th-century Chinese corporate gift or promotional commission.

During China’s industrial export boom (mostly the 1970s through the 1990s), prominent factories in Jingdezhen regularly produced high-quality, heavy-duty dinnerware for domestic corporations, electric companies, and government bureaus. These pieces were typically ordered to be given away as commemorative employee milestones, corporate gifts, or for use in official company dining halls.

Because it was commissioned for a corporate or industrial entity, the factory prioritized a much thicker, heavier, and more durable porcelain build than standard thin export tea sets. This ensured the platters could withstand heavy daily use.

This is a high-quality, heavy-duty export porcelain piece that features a noticeably thick, heavy base, making it robust and perfect for traditional presentation dishes like steaming whole fish.
