1-Gallon Stoneware Salt-Glazed Jug – Cobalt Blue Leaf Motif

Late 19th-century American country primitive salt-glazed stoneware jug. This 1-gallon piece features the distinctive characteristics of the highly collectible Whites Utica (New York) pottery line, manufactured circa 1880–1910 (others are seen with Utica business advertising on them).

Stands approximately 9″ tall with a 1-gallon capacity. 

Adorned with a beautiful, deeply molded spiral “roped” trim wrapping completely around the shoulder line. 

Features two vibrant, matching molded cobalt blue relief leaf ornaments directly opposite each other on the shoulders. These originally served as anchor points for a wire bail handle.

Has an embossed size “1” on the front shoulder area. The base is completely unmarked, which is entirely correct for this specific product run.

Very good antique condition with wonderful, natural coloration and classic “orange peel” texturing from the historic salt-glazing process. There are no major cracks or structural damage on the body. There is a chip at the base that does not affect its structural integrity. Please note that the original metal wire and wood bail handle is missing, leaving the molded leaf attachment loops exposed and clean. Perfect addition for collectors of Americana, primitive crocks, or New York stoneware!
